    Except it wasn’t really St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church because instead of being downtown, across the street from a vape shop and a brunch place, the building was in the middle of a silent, sprawling meadow.

    The little boy was holding a leash, on the end of which was a very small, very scraggly canine.

    The dog was emaciated, her little ribs poking through patches of white and beige fur.
