    A pilgrim is a person who goes on a long journey, usually for a religious purpose.

    This document, the Mayflower Compact, explained how the Pilgrims would govern themselves.

    Bad weather and dangerous water conditions forced them north to what is today Cape Cod.

    Everyone had to be responsible for his or her actions.

    Although the first French colony eventually failed, the fur trade with the North American Indians began.

    Some companies in France held a monopoly on the North American fur.

    He made New France a royal province.
  19. relationship
    a state involving dealings between people, parties, or ideas
    The relationship between the two neighbors was peaceful.
