    This feeling of unity as a nation is known as nationalism.

    To maintain stability and prosperity, Bismarck introduced social welfare programs. Social welfare is support for people who need it, such as children, the elderly, or unemployed people.

    a discussion intended to produce an agreement
    Bismarck became known for his practical policies of negotiation and compromise.
  17. superior
    of high quality or performance
    A superior Prussian force, supported by troops from other German states, smashed the badly organized and poorly supplied French soldiers.
