  17. subject
    one of the two main constituents of a sentence
    The simple subject tells whom or what a sentence is about.
  18. predicate
    the constituent of a sentence containing the verb
    The simple predicate is the verb that tells what the subject of a sentence does or is.
  19. active voice
    when the subject of a sentence performs the action
    A verb in the active voice expresses an action done by its subject.
  20. passive voice
    when the subject of a sentence is a recipient of the action
    A verb in the passive voice expresses an action done to its subject.
