As soon as they saw us they leapt down and vanished.

Mr. Kobayashi said thoughtfully, “I don’t know, Kentaro. Perhaps he still hopes that Dr. Ueno will return someday. Or perhaps he knows Dr. Ueno is dead, but he waits at the station to honor his master’s memory.”

They bow shyly as wet swans. They love each other.

There is no loneliness like theirs.

I hoe
and cultivate, find my dead aim

The dogs do not understand wild nature.
I also was domesticated.

When it comes to pigments, Congo is a purist.

Not for a moment do I question the authenticity of the images, or the methods used to produce them, but it would have been interesting to see the extent of Morris's involvement in important aesthetic matters such as the choice of colored paper for Congo to work on.

Confronted by a pleasing assortment of abstract shapes, we humans have a wondrous ability to find meaning in them and to gain pleasure from them.
