poems about America

Born in 1819, Walt Whitman called himself "the people's poet" and celebrated that in lines about how "I Hear America Singing." Half a century later, Langston Hughes felt that this was not a complete picture of American diversity, so he responded with his own poem entitled "I, Too, Sing America."
