Rocker Chris Cornell died on May 18, 2017 at the age of 52. Cornell was the lead singer and lyricist of Soundgarden, a band that achieved mainstream success in the 1990s on the backs of their hard rocking sound and the disturbing video for their biggest hit, "Black Hole Sun," off of their album "Superunknown." Prior to Soundgarden, Cornell also sang for Temple of the Dog along with Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder, and after Soundgarden, Cornell fronted the supergroup Audioslave. For his fans,Cornell's stage presence transcended pop culture fads and MTV airplay, and his lyrics were brimming with a pain his soulful voice seemed specifically designed to express.
