genealogical

/ˌˈdʒiniəˌˈlɑdʒəkəl/
IPA guide

Anything genealogical has something to do with studying the history of a family and its past generations of ancestors. A genealogical website can help you trace your family tree.

If you do genealogical research on your family, you might learn the names of your great-great-grandparents, or where your ancestors lived 200 years ago. The adjective genealogical and the noun genealogy both contain the word gene — and all three stem from the Greek root genea, "generation" or "race."
