Other forms: Zeuss

In ancient Greece, Zeus was known as the king of the gods. As he was also the thunder god, Zeus is often pictured holding a thunderbolt in his hand.

If you know even a little bit about Greek mythology, you've heard of Zeus, who was the father of many other well-known mythological figures, including Helen of Troy, Apollo, and Athena. Statues of Zeus show him draped with robes, his hair and beard long, and an imperious expression on his face. The word Zeus shares a Proto-Indo-European root with the Latin deus, or "god."
