Francophobe

Other forms: Francophobes

If you're inexplicably disgusted by baguettes, berets, and cafés au lait, you may be a Francophobe, someone with an irrational dislike of anything that's French.

Unlike agoraphobia (fear of crowds) or claustrophobia (fear of small spaces), a doctor won't diagnose you with being a Francophobe. Rather than being a legitimate anxiety disorder, describing yourself this way is simply a clever way to frame your dislike of French things. The word has been in use since the late 19th century, formed by adding -phobe, "fear or hatred," to Franco, "the French."
